COURSE DETAILS

WHAT IS WILDERNESS FIRST AID?

This is a two-and-a-half day introductory course that focuses on general medical concepts, basic life support skills, and low-resource options for basic first aid treatments.  Standard Wilderness First Aid is the best course for outdoor enthusiasts on day trips and short adventures, offering relevant and realistic first aid training with an unparalleled focus on hands-on practice.  

COURSE DURATION

20 Hours (2 /12 Days)

TYPICAL COURSE SCHEDULE

  • Friday Evening: 5 PM - 9 PM (Classroom Session)
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9 AM - 5 PM
  • Rain, shine, snow or wind!

ACCOMPANYING MEDICAL KITS

All medical supplies are provided, but any of our basic level medical kits would complement this course and give students the tools necessary to utilize their new medical skills. View kits here.

KEY TOPICS COVERED

The WFA includes a broad range of introductory medical skills and topics, including patient assessment, lifting and moving patients, cold and heat emergencies, altitude, immersion, submersion, lightning, legal considerations, and more. Students also learn how to effectively manage basic wounds, infection, shock, head injuries, spinal injuries, respiratory and cardiac emergencies, abdominal pain, metabolic and allergic reactions, and altered mental states.

CERTIFICATION

CERTIFICATIONS RECEIVED

Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid with CPR/AED 'C'

  • This certification completely includes the Red Cross 2 Day Standard First Aid Certification.
  • This certification is valid for up to 3 years.
  • Annual recertification options will maintain skills and certifications, and offer special topics for focused learning.

ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION BENEFITS

  • Holders of a valid certification are eligible to upgrade to an Advanced Wilderness & Remote First Aid certification with a 20 hour bridge course.
  • Current WFA Certificate holders are invited to keep skills sharp with our regularly scheduled night scenarios.
  • Free refresher courses for those who wish to practice or touch up specific skills.

RECERTIFICATION  OPTIONS

  • For students who last certified within the last year, we recommend our one day WFA recertification.
  • For students who last certified more than one year ago, we recommend our two day WFA recertification.
