Standard Wilderness First Aid

Advanced Wilderness First Aid

40 Hours • $495 • Canadian Red Cross Certified  • Includes CPR/AED-C

Advanced Wilderness First Aid is a pre-professional course designed for hard-core adventurers and outdoors professionals who intend to spend days or weeks in significantly remote or challenging environments.  This course expands on the Standard Wilderness First Aid course by preparing students for medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available for an extensive time period.  Students learn leadership, team management, risk mitigation and expanded treatment techniques to manage emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment.

All of our instructors are wilderness medicine specialists with significant patient care and backcountry experience.

This certification is also available as an upgrade for holders of an unexpired Standard Wilderness First Aid certificicate.

Wilderness First Responder

80 Hours • $895 • Canadian Red Cross Certified • Includes CPR/AED-HCP

The Red Cross Wilderness First Responder Course is the definitive top-tier professional-level wilderness medical response program in Canada.   This program is a specifically focused version of the Canadian Red Cross Medical First Responder program - a nationally recognized standard of training that has been adopted by EMS agencies across Canada.  This course combines the advanced pre-hospital assessment and treatment options of First Responder training with the low resource options, extended care considerations, and decision-making approach of Advanced Wilderness First Aid.  This is a program that is truly more than the sum of its parts - a challenging, intensive program that will have you prepared to intervene and manage medical emergencies on a higher level whenever - and wherever - they arise.

This is the definitive professional wilderness medical course, featuring training in advanced backcountry medicine,  leadership, and critical thinking for outdoor, low-resource, and remote professionals and leaders.  This is considered required training for outdoor educators, guides, search and rescue, remote researchers, and disaster relief.   Our curriculum is comprehensive and practical, and includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary.  The WFR curriculum is always being updated as ongoing evidence-based research in wilderness medicine contributes to our body of knowledge, guaranteeing that the most current, complete and innovative approach to patient care in backcountry or austere settings.  This is the most effective and advanced first responder training - urban or remote - in the country.

All of our instructors are trained, experienced paramedics and wilderness medicine specialists  with significant patient care and back-country experience.

Wilderness First Responder (Upgrade)*

40 Hours • $495 • Canadian Red Cross Certified • Includes CPR/AED-HCP (Healthcare Professional)

This focused upgrade option allows a current AWFA certificate holder to top up their current training with the professional skills and assessments of a First Responder program, leading to full WFR certification. 

* An Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification, issued within the last 12 months, is a required prerequisite for this course.
