Pre-Class Study Modules (Required)
You must complete the 7 Pre-Course Study Modules on our Learning Management System (LMS) before you begin your in-class training. These modules usually take new learners 20 and 30 hours to complete, but with your previous training you will likely complete them more quickly.
Your LMS account will also have access to the EMR Upgrade Homework Modules 2025. The first module is additional pre-study material and must be completed before the first day of your class.
Homework Modules (VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
The other 7 modules in the EMR Upgrade Homework Course will be assigned as homework during your course, however, it is highly recommended that you also complete as many as you can BEFORE your in-class training begins - it will make the training significantly less intense.
Structure Example Video
Professional response involves a structured approach to patient care. Our diabetic scenario video – performed by some of our EMR alumni – will give you a good idea of some of your goalposts in this course.
*** Important! There is an annoying bug in our LMS that sometimes prevents modules from being marked as complete. As long as you have completed all the quizzes and knowledge assessments in the module, we can see that the work has been done - the system may not recognize your accomplishment, but we do! :-)
EMR Textbooks and Study Materials
All study materials are included in the cost of the course. Besides the online study material, you also get:
Emergency Care for Professional Responders textbook* (PDF access here)
EMR Treatment and Training Protocols (PDF access here, hardcopy distributed in class).
Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support Field Guide (hardcopy distributed in class).
Student Stethoscope and Blood Pressure Cuff (Distributed in class).
*If you would prefer a hardcopy of this textbook, contact us to purchase for $140).
Prerequisite Training
The only prerequisite for this class is preparation - you must be familiar with the skills and concepts taught during your qualifying First Responder, Wilderness First Responder, or OFA-3.
There will be very little time for review in this class, and if you are not prepared, you are at risk of falling behind and being unsuccessful.
If you feel the upgrade course might not be for you, contact us to discuss moving into a full EMR course at a discounted rate.
